How It Started
Originally scheduled to take place at The Belfry in England, the 2001 Ryder Cup was cancelled after the September 11th attacks in the United States. In Ghana, eight friends left with no Ryder Cup to watch decided to create their own. On the last weekend of September they played at Achimota Golf Club over two days, setting it up as North versus South to take in the many players from around the world living and working in Ghana.
Since then the Rida Cup has grown past 60 players and has been played at The Centre of the World Golf Club in Tema, Celebrity Golf Club in Sakumono and Achimota Golf Club in Accra — countless memories, and a great many people met along the way.
Team South successfully defended the Rida Cup in 2025. Team North will look to add to their twenty victories in 2026. As we look forward to the memories and friendships still to be made, we proudly mark our 26th year.
